Screening: Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs

Semester 3

For this week Mechanics of Motion class, we were not having tasks like we always did but instead Mr Ezwan let us to choose Disney movie to watch for the class. The choice were either Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs or Toy Story, and so our majority decision choose Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was the first animated film produced by Disney in 1937. This story has been adapted from the original Grimm Brothers' Fairy tale was the made using cell animation method.

After one hour and half enjoying the film, Mr Ezwan has given us task to analyzed a character that captured our most attention. Then, with the chosen character we need to write out about the character according to the given list below:

• What is his/her trait?
• What is his/her role?
• What is his/her goal?
• What is the character fears the most?
• What are the character's exaggerated characteristics?
• What is the character's relationship to others?

Choosen Character

So, the character I have chosen be Snow White herself. Why? I think I am the biggest fan of Disney princesses. Every time I watch Disney movies, I would always put myself as the princesses character. Also, you will never too old for Disney movies.

Character's Trait

Snow White is 14 years old princess who lived in the castle with her stepmother, the Evil Queen. She is happy spirited girl who could fit in any situation even in hard times. For instance, Snow White seems happy scrubbing the stairs and wearing old wore dress in the castle. I could imagine that it was the Evil Queen who order her to do the house chores. Other than that, although she had lost in the forest and scared, she still managed to be happy when the animals approached her. Snow White also doing just fine living happily and being comfortable with the dwarfs whose she just met.

Another good quality in Snow White that I can see is she always make sure everything is tidy up. Even the cottage was not hers, she's just so happy to help tidy up the place even no one asked her too. She also willingly to cook for the dwarfs and make sure that the dwarfs keep themselves hygiene before eat.

Character's Role in the Film

Obviously, Snow White is the main character in the film as the film was about a princess who ran away because her jealous stepmother wanted to kill her for she was the most beautiful person on the land. 

As the main protagonist character of the movie, Snow White shows good quality of one's self by being nice to animals and dwarfs, take care of the cottage and cook meals. Snow White also has charming personality as we could see her being do friendly and trustful to others. Over all, Snow White took the focus role on being a lovable princess by all people around her except for the Evil Queen who hates her.

Character's Goal

As been stated before, Snow White has ran away when the huntsman urged her to and save her life from the Evil Queen. Her stepmother, the Evil Queen was extremely jealous for Snow White's beauty so she ordered the huntsman to kill Snow White in the forest. But the huntsman unwilling to do so, he let Snow White ran away in the forest. This is when Snow White got lost in the deep of forest and meet the animals which helped her to find a place to live.

So, Snow White live with the dwarfs for the sake of having shelter and place to live and her main goal was to hide from her evil stepmother who wants to kill her.

Character's Most Fear

Although Snow White seems to be brave and have courage enough to live with bunch of strangers, she also has fear for being alone the deep dark forest and her stepmother. Of course, she fears of her evil stepmother as the Evil Queen dare to give order and kill Snow White, that is why Snow White hide in the dwarfs' cottage.

Snow White also was afraid of the deep dark forest. After the huntsman attempted to kill her and asked her to ran far far away in the forest, Snow White must been shocked by the incident and her mind and emotion must be unstable. Running into the dark forest may be something strange for her and with the fears she had inside the head makes her imagined the forest was full of sinister creatures that wanted to disturb and hurt her. We could see Snow White obviously feeling scared running into the deep dark forest.

Character's Exaggerated Characteristic

There are two times when I see Snow White in her exaggerated self. First, every time she is singing and secondly was the time she got lost in the dark forest. I know it is something common for a Disney princess to sing, but every time I saw Snow White sings or dances, it feels like exaggerated especially when the time she's sitting, clapping hands and enjoying dwarfs singing. And her singing was not that good but hey, so do I! That's why I chose be Snow White.

Also, when the time she ran away in the dark forest, I can see how exaggerated her expression was and that's not a bad thing because it looks like almost real. I can say for the first full-length featured film, Snow White is great as it is.

Character's Relationship with Others

Snow White is a lovable princess around her surrounding. Everybody loves her except for her evil stepmother who was jealous of her beauty. Although for her stepmother ill being, Sow White seems to be fine living in the castle doing chores even she don't have to because, she is the princess. I guess her stepmother ordered her to do those works. Snow White also easy to put trust on people even if they were just met. For example, she trust the old hag which was her stepmother in disguise. The old hag gave her an apple which could make dreams came true and so she believed.

As the princess, Snow White was pleasantly accepted by the dwarfs to live in their cottage, or maybe expect for Grumpy. Grumpy said that the Evil Queen gave them trouble if Snow White keep staying at their cottage. Despite of Grumpy's hate, but when Snow White actually make the dwarfs life easier, Grumpy also was fine with the princess staying at their place. This shows Snow White relationship with the dwarfs really is fine and they were happy staying together.

Other than the seven dwarfs, Snow White also being good to the animals. All the forest animals loves her. They even helped Snow White cleaned up the cottage!

Last but not least, relationship between Snow White and the prince. Although, they have met once and not in official way, it is frankly to say, they already fell in love at the first sight. Even at the time Snow White was just wearing old dress, singing while scrubbing the stairs, the prince attracted to Snow White. Maybe he falls in love with the voice? I don't know, love makes people blind and deaf.

And so, as Snow White has been cursed to the Death Sleep and the only counter cursed was true love kiss, and I guess everyone knows how it ends. Yes, with a true love kiss, of course. Prince Charming to the rescue!

And so, I lived happily ever after.
