Week 3
Semester 3
2017
Our class this week consists of three activities: Being There, Minimal Word and Soundscape with Place Atmosphere.
1. Being There
For this first task, we needed to think of one animal and act like one and talk about ourselves as the animal we chose to be. So, basically Being There is we needed to being there in the 'animal's shoe' and be them.
At first I was planning to be a sloth but I'm not really good at slow-motioning myself in talk and movement so, I choose to be a koala bear. Below is the video I explaining myself as a koala.
What I learn from this task, in the process of making a animation character or any character, we need to understand the character we create. For example, if I want to make a koala character, I need to know how it moves, what are their features; fur, size and all, their habitat, common things they do and what they eat and all. Good character is from good understand of the original character itself.
2. Minimal Word
Back to normal human being, we were asked sit in pair (in my case, of three because we're out of numbers), and needed to create a scene which we needed to used very minimal word but the make scene understandable by all.
Dinie, Humaira and I created a scene at a bus station where I was busying myself talking to the phone while a blind woman (Dinie) was sitting nearby facing towards me. I got this suspicious feeling when the woman keep 'looking' at me or at least, I thought she was watching me. Little did I knew, when the bus came and a girl came approached the woman and that's when I realized the fact that the woman was blind. The woman also forgot her handbag when the girl came to her and picked her up to the bus, so I quickly called for her and gave her the handbag.
The objective I've learn from the task is without using to much words or dialogues, we are actually be able to deliver message with action, face expression and body language. The action made up by a character that be able to deliver it clearly can be the explanation about one's situation without even saying a word.
3. Soundscape with Place Atmosphere
We split into two groups for the last task of the class. With a group of nine, we discuss a scene and what sound we will make. For this activity, we were required to act a scene and make sound effects by ourselves. This is our acted out.
We make a car accident scene feat nowadays' people reaction towards the event. We learn that sound effect is important to complete a scene and it takes a lot of people to make the sound real and merrier especially for scenes like the one we acted out. It needs group work to made the crowd sounds very loud and stress, adding up with car honks. As the conclusion for today's class, drive safe!
