Mechanics of Motion: Second Class
Lesson in class
Mechanics of Motion
Week 4
Semester 3
2017
1. Introducing your partner
For this first task, we were separated into pairs and given four minutes to asked anything about our partner. I was pair up with Dinie, and so she told me her full name, where she's from, what her favorites and all; and I also told her mine. When the time given was out, everybody needed to retold what our partners had told but it cannot be added up. So, we just simply talk about our partner as many as we could remember based on what they had told.
2. Trust yourself
This second task, still with the same partner, we need to share any memorable event or things that significant about us to each other. In four minutes, Dinie and I shared our stories; I told her about having Eid Mubarak celebration this year at Singapore and went to Universal Studios Singapore on third Syawal. For Dinie, she shared to me her obsession for Owl City especially about the vocalist, Adam Young.
When sharing time was up, in pairs, we needed to create a situation (anything at all) and talked to our partner about their stories. Dinie and I decided to acted like we were accidentally meet each other while shopping at a mall after years. So, I started talking about Owl City going to held concert that evening and I retold Dinie how fond she is about the band since high school and having all the band merchandizes, and also she even printed out few T-shirt of Owl City which she wears until today. And as for Dinie, she told me that she's planning on going to Universal Studios Singapore and she started talking about what I told her before; which I was scared went to Battlestar Galactica roller coaster ride.
3. Trust your partner
In this final task of the day, we have to switch partner and sat randomly in the class (on floor, we used classroom with no desks and chairs). Trust your partner is an activity which one of the partner needed to closed and covered their eyes and told any story of their lives while walking around the classroom assisted by their partner. Other classmates could sat at any place and be any obstacles while the partners walking around.
My partner for this task was Fadlin. She volunteered herself to be the blindfolded storyteller, so I was the one who needs to navigate her. Fadlin told a story about her seeing something mysterious and spooky, but I barely heard her because she kicked and stepped on our classmates so many times and everyone was laughing. By and by, things got crazier and crazier. We started to make harder obstacles to our classmates who were telling story and walking around. The last partner to walked were barely walked and just slided their bodies to the floor. We all having so much fun in this task!

What I got during the class, firstly everybody has their own character. When Encik Ezwan said we need to introduced our friends, most of us started with names. Every character has name. That is the most important thing. Also, everybody has their own characteristics and personalities; where are they from, how old is he/she, what are their likes and dislikes. These things are actually important too, to make up their character. To make any character actually more appealing with their own uniqueness.
Secondly, every character has their story. To make any character alive, they must actually, alive. Have life. Like us, in second and third tasks, we shared with our stories with our classmates. With our characteristics, likes and dislikes, there must be story about it in one's life which what makes them what they are. About why and how Dinie really loves Owl City and about what makes me so afraid of going on roller coaster again. This is how a character develop. A character must develop through story, through any event that is going around them.
Next thing I learned from this class is we need to be creative. I guess in any class we had, we need to be creative because we always need to come out with something to act and present. Just like in the second task, our lecturer only told us what to do next when we finished sharing our stories with partner. Within few minutes, we came out with what situation to acted in, how the conversation between us talking about one another actually started and the presentation was understandable by all spectators. Also, not to forget about being obstacles in third task, to me it was impressively creative on how we created more and more difficult obstacles for our friends which actually make the class so fun and playful.
Lastly, we need to have high concentration and focus in anything we do. This was from the third task which the storyteller need to walked around blindfolded with so many obstacles as they kept stepped on friends and hit on something. I, as the person who was responsible to guided my partner, Fadlin walked around, I did not had slightly any idea what story she told because I was too drove away by the fun and laughter among our classmates who were forming obstacles. I only acknowledged the story Fadlin told when Encik Ezwan actually asked her about it when time was up. I think it was impressive how he could heard Fadlin out of the air full of laughter when even I was by Fadlin's side all those time did not heard a thing. This shows our focus were totally in different places, haha!
I think that is all for Mechanics of Motion class for this week.
